Wendy Tournay

Wendy completed a BA Hons in Ceramics with Glass Design at University of Central England in 1998, following this she worked as a Shape Designer for the ceramics industry before returning to study in the world renowned ‘Potteries’ in Stoke on Trent.

She undertook a Masters at Staffordshire University in Ceramic Design for Production which was completed in 2003 and won many awards for her work including Jaguar Product Design Award and Johnson Matthey Shape Design Award. Wendy completed a PGCE at University of Central England in 2005 and has since taught Art & Design, Product Design and Ceramics in Schools, University and MAC Birmingham.

​Alongside teaching she runs her Contemporary Ceramics Practice from her home studio in Birmingham where she designs, models and makes by hand contemporary minimalist ceramic giftware and interior products that add beauty to the home. Combining ceramic production processes of plaster modelling, mould making & slip-casting and using the finest English Bone China her ceramics are elegant, pure white and functional. She designs products that challenge technical limitations whilst staying honest to their inherent material qualities.

​Wendy welcomes commissions and has worked with a variety of businesses including Edgbaston Michelin star restaurant Simpsons, producing unique handmade plates, candle holders and bud vases.
