Paula Adkins

I am a ceramic artist based in Staffordshire, specialising in stoneware hand-built and wheel thrown pottery.

Following early retirement as a materials technologist, business improvement and quality manager at a global engineering company I took a part time pottery course at my local college. I instantly fell in love with it and after a year, set up a ceramics studio in an outbuilding at my home.

With my engineering science background, I carefully consider fit, form and function of each of my pieces in addition to its aesthetic appeal.

I find working with clay in my home studio very therapeutic and relaxing but relish the technical challenges of creating and mixing glazes and calculating appropriate kiln programmes.

My ceramics are unique and one of a kind. I enjoy special commissions as I can engage my customers throughout every stage of the process and find it incredibly satisfying when I receive positive comments from them.

I have a particular passion for the natural elements and often create functional tableware and sculptural pieces associated to fire, earth, air, or water.
