My sculpture is inspired by a life-long love of animals, especially British wildlife. I’m interested in how animals move in their environment and interact with each other. As each animal has its own individual personality, I try to give each sculpture its own character through shape, texture and movement.
I have been experimenting with raku as a firing and glazing technique for the unpredictability, spontaneity and uniqueness of the results. Smoke firing also accentuates the texture and adds subtle layers of interest to the form.
