Anne Durbin

My work is slip cast porcelain. Some have inlayed pieces of coloured porcelain with other decoration incised at the leather hard stage, filled with coloured slip and scraped back before bisque firing. I sand down to get a smooth surface or apply a clear glaze. Other pieces have layers of different coloured porcelain, the decoration being formed by removing some of the outer layer or layers.

Most of my inspiration has been from nature but more recently I have experimented with more abstract designs. Some have taken their inspiration from Aboriginal ceramics and others the “op-art” of the 60s.
