Pit Firing Spring 2022
Event Date:
3 April 2022
Event Time:
10:30 am
Event Location:
Karen Bird’s Stonehouse Studios
MPA are planning to hold a Spring Pit Firing on April 3rd at Karen Bird’s Stonehouse Studios, Drayton Lane, Drayton Bassett B78 3EF. The start time will be 10.30, with the pit being lit before lunchtime. Karen’s studio will be available for shelter, refreshment and welfare facilities, with Petra Rohr Rouendaal hosting. Helen Willis, Giles Headley, and Andrew Matheson will attend to the firing.
If attendees are not able to pre-prepare their pieces for firing, you will be able to wrap your (preferably) burnished pots with oxides and combustibles before we load the pit and light it between 12 and 1pm. That will be followed by lunch together. Please bring your own packup and a mug or similar for your drinks.
Attendance is limited to 10 people, with acceptance being on a first come, first served basis. Due to the limited places the event is open only to members.
We would ask that pieces made for the firing are of mixed, but modest size, no bigger than would fit in a cube of 200mm side. Well rounded forms work best – flatware does not usually fare well. We’d expect about 4 pieces per person to be accommodated.
As in previous years, we hope to organise some sort of making activity to occupy everyone during the afternoon. The pit opening will be some days later, but the day/time will be decided to suit the majority of those present.
If you’d like to come to this event please apply by sending an email to Giles at treasurer@midlandspotters.co.uk.
