There is no doubt that Mick Casson was one of the pioneers of studio pottery in the UK. In 2010 David Jones (current Midlands Potters Association Chair) was given a VHS video with the title ‘M Casson Pottery Class 1980‘ by a professor who had worked at Cardiff, Bretton Hall and Bath Spa University. Ashe no longer had access to a VHS player the video languished in Davids studio until he decided to have it converted into a digital format. The recording was clearly made at an art college, which it is assumed was one of the three mentioned. It is 180 minutes long and a compelling masterclass about making pots the Mick Casson way.
The video is in black and white but it is in reasonable good condition given its age. This will be an ‘uncut’ showing of the first hour of that masterclass. It is a compelling and remarkable insight into the considerations that Mick made and the studio pottery climate in the UK at the time. Two subsequent 60 minute online events will ensure the entire masterclass is made available.
If you would like to join the online event please email the MPA membership secretary for further details at firstname.lastname@example.org or you can register here and pay online either by Debit/Credit card or agreeing to pay by Bank Transfer.
