The Association welcomes all people interested in hand made ceramics.
Our aims are: To stimulate awareness and understanding of studio pottery in all its forms. To promote and maintain communications between those interested in craft pottery. To educate, encourage and develop standards in the craft. To provide activities of interest to members.
The MPA gives its members opportunities to exhibit work and organises open and selected exhibitions each year. We have held exhibitions at various venues around the Midlands, namely, The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Gallery, Stoke-on-Trent Museum, Himley Hall, The Gladstone Museum, The Midlands Arts Centre, Burford House, Bilston Craft Gallery, Lichfield Arts Festival, Birmingham Botanical Gardens and The Hub in Lincolnshire.
We organise masterclasses on different techniques which are taught by the very best exponent of that method of working, usually a craftsman of international status. In 2006 we held a Festival of Fire (DVD available) at Pendrell Hall, which was a residential weekend with six demonstrators, all experts in their specialities and with international reputations. Over eighty members attended together with students from Wolverhampton University. In May 2008 we are planning another similar residential event, called 'Another Perspective', at the same venue.
The MPA encourages members to meet in local groups for social activities, discussions, demonstrations and workshops, which are all advertised in the MPA newsletter. This is sent free to all members on a bi-monthly basis. Members are requested to send in articles, reviews, news, letters, equipment for sale and wants, etc., for publication.
