These forms are inspired by the women’s hats of the 40’s and 50’s, a period when a lady would not leave the house without wearing a hat. In an era that is less driven by conformity, the hats appear absurd, frivolous and fun. The irony is that the sculptural forms are all functional.
The pieces shown here are worked in high fired paper clay. These slightly dotty ladies are designed to act as planters, fruit bowls or flowerpot holders. They are fired to a high temperature to make them suitable for use in the house or the garden. |
