I make coil built stoneware vessels which are inspired by nature and the natural world, with many of my designs starting life as sketches of organic items such as shells, flowers and leaves. I enjoy finding a form and exploring that shape fully, making a series of work by varying the design and glaze so that each pot is unique.
This interest in coil building has grown with me from my early pottery studies at A level. During my higher education at university I was inspired to learn to throw. This developed into a love of porcelain that complimented my interest with glaze technology, particularly reduction glazes. After university I secured an apprenticeship at Whichford Pottery where I spent two years further training.
Along side my coil building I also throw functional vessels and I am currently designing a range of ceramic jewellery. I now fire in an oxidation atmosphere so I am developing a new range of glazes for my current series of work. |
