I trained at Wolverhampton University leaving in 1979 with a BA Honours degree in Ceramics.
Over the last thirty years my work has changed in many subtle ways. Although shapes are repeated decoration is always unique to that piece.
Because I use press molding to produce basic shapes, I like to play with ways of altering them, for example, cutting and rejoining. Also, I like to add extra parts made using other making methods like coiling or slabbing.
I decorate straight on to the piece with a scalpel blade, no room for error, and hopefully I think of yet another new pattern. I have always used colour in my work, sometimes subtly and sometimes very loudly. Recently I have incorporated copper wire, as used in the repair of ancient pottery.
It is the thought of trying something different that drives me on to create. |
