Carole Glover

On leaving Derby University, Carole pursued her love of pots by assisting wood-firing potters in Devon whilst setting up her own studio in Stafford. Influenced by 19th century Devonshire and 16th/17th century Staffordshire slipware potters, Carole aims for simplicity of form and uses a wood-firing kiln to complement and enhance her own style of studio and traditional slipware decoration by offering her pots a raw sophisticated finish.

The pots, thrown on a homemade momentum wheel, are decorated, raw-glazed and fired to approximately 1080°C using the gas or wood-firing kiln. In her studio she uses both thrown and slab methods to produce her range of work. Carole uses red earthenware clay and makes vessels that range from domestic tableware to decorative and commemorative pieces.

The use of colour associated with these periods, together with the textures created by jewelling and wood-firing, makes Carole’s pots both a palatable and visual experience.
