These pots represent my recent focus on further developing and refining stoneware forms, based around throwing on the wheel. These wheel-made pots are then used as a base for handbuilding an organic upper section of impressed clay, echoing my fascination with the sea, natural forms and erosion. Some of the vases feature winged elements reminiscent of the work of Colin Pearson, transforming them into sculptures together with a functional element.
Most of my glazes are based around matt white dolomite and fired to 1220°C, although a few pieces have Raku earthenware glaze finishes, and are fired to 1060°C. I fire my work in an EP45 electric kiln, with a Mercury kiln for glaze testing and experimentation.
I have practised ceramics at universities in Hungary and Japan, and my work has been exhibited and collected around the United Kingdom, Europe, the U.S.A. and Japan. |
