I trained during the 1990s on the Harrow Ceramics Course and ten years later completed an MA in Ceramics at the University of Wolverhampton.
I make on the wheel and, to add immediacy to the work, I finish the form when the clay is still wet. I allow the clay to dry and add engobes or colouring oxides to the surface. More oxides and glazes are added once the work has been bisqued and it is then fired to stoneware.
My work is actually inspired by the pottery process where the elements earth, water and fire play a crucial part in the process. Surface designs use the remaining elements, air or wind and the fifth debatable heavenly element-quintessence. |
