MPA 2008 Residential Event, ‘Another Perspective’.
The Midlands Potters’ Association organised another residential event following the highly successful Festival of Fire in 2006. It was an exciting weekend of demonstrations, talks, workshops and kiln firing by many notable potters including: Billy Adams, Svend Bayer, Christine Gittins, Ian Gregory, Vicky Shaw and Ruthanne Tudball.
The venue was Pendrell Hall College, a delightful Victorian country residence in South Staffordshire. The weekend ran from the evening of Friday, 2nd May 2008, until Sunday, 4th May, 2008. All meals were provided together with morning coffee and afternoon tea. Everyone praised the quality of the three course dinners, the lavish breakfasts and the wonderful Saturday buffet lunch. Most of the rooms had en suite facilities although there were only a limited number of single rooms. The disabled were catered for throughout the college.
Unfortunately, our only support funding for the event was £500 from South Staffordshire, for which we were very grateful, and so the cost of tickets had to be increased substantially. Also, due to increases in the charges set by educational establishments, we had to charge £200 for MPA members and £220 for non members.
However, we organised a successful fundraising event with the help of Henry Sandon, the ceramics expert and Bonhams, the prestigious auctioneers. Pendrell Hall kindly gave us the venue for this fundraising event for free. Mark Hannam from Bonhams was our after-dinner speaker on the Saturday night at the ‘Another Perspective’ weekend. |
